Paul Kolarik

Council Member

Paul Kolarik grew up in a suburban / rural area just north of Philadelphia, which explains the head covers on his golf clubs and his fanatical approach to Philly sports.

Paul's family was deeply Lutheran.  His father's father came to the US as a teenager from Slovakia and became a Missouri Synod pastor. His mother's family was primarily German and has been in the US for over 200 years. The family worshiped regularly and Paul became a youth leader in his LCA church.

After a year in college as a music major, he spent two years doing youth work for the LCA in New York City.  He came to California for the summer in 1974.  Long summer.

After many years of trying, Paul finally graduated from the University of San Francisco with a degree in economics in 1993.  He worked in banking and finance for over 30 years, the last 12 as a business lending manager at First Northern Bank in West Sacramento.

In 2010, he escaped from banking and became the part time Executive Director of West Sacramento Housing Development Corporation, a non-profit that provides affordable rental housing.  He continues to work for social justice through WSHDC.

Paul enjoys playing and watching golf and sports of all kinds.  He loves traveling with his trophy wife, Ellen, and sharing food and hiking with her.  The wine he keeps for himself.

Paul and Ellen have been members of LCI for about 20 years.
